About the book: This book contains pretty much everyone from Book 1 and Book 2, which gives it (extra kind reviewer) “a huge load of depth”. (Weaving together all the storylines also drove me spare but that’s by the by.) In fact, there are only two new characters: Charlotte and Ned. Charlotte is PA to Patrick (you know the one: large, sweary Gypsy). Charlotte works diligently to keep her emotional life under control, but is thwarted by whatever deity decides to keep us humble when she inadvertently falls in love with her boss. At first, she refuses to act but once she’s given a clue that Patrick’s marriage may not be as stable as believed, she goes all out to win his heart, including arranging to be nanny-for-a-month to the small children of Patrick and his wife and two other families at a Lake Como villa. There Charlotte meets Ned, a ghost from Patrick’s past whose hard life has been partly of his own making, and ends up being forced to question the desirability (and indeed sanity) of the actions that have brought her to his point. Can’t say more because of spoilers, but be prepared for some storylines that contain conflict and personal struggles. Be prepared, too, for four determinedly single-minded female characters (five if you count Marcus’ absent sister Gus) and the usual earthy language. My main aim has always been to make readers laugh, so fingers crossed you will.
